Ladakh and Spiti trips look alike on a booking page: same lakes, same passes, similar prices. The difference is what happens on a bad day. Use these ten questions with any operator, including us, and compare the answers in writing.
1 to 3: what does the price really cover?
Ask for the full inclusion and exclusion list, not a headline price.
- Are the bike or vehicle, fuel, permits, entry fees and meals included, and which meals?
- What costs extra: GST, solo supplements, luggage over a limit, a spare rider or a seat in the backup vehicle?
- Is there a security deposit, and when and how is it returned?
4 to 6: who is with you on the road?
The people matter more than the hotel.
- Is there a trip captain on every batch and a mechanic for bike trips?
- Is there a backup vehicle, and does it carry an oxygen cylinder and an oximeter?
- Where is the company registered, and can you speak to someone who has run the route before?
7 to 8: what if the plan changes?
Landslides and snow close roads without warning, so the answer should be a policy, not a promise.
- What happens if a pass or road is closed, and who pays for the extra night?
- How does the first day work, and is there time to rest at altitude before you ride or climb?
9 to 10: money and proof
A fair operator puts its terms in writing before you pay.
- How much is the booking amount, when is the balance due and what are the cancellation charges at each stage?
- Are there recent traveller reviews you can read, with photos from real batches?
How MountainBea answers
Our trips are run by a Himachal-based crew that has operated since 2018. Every batch has a trip captain, and bike batches have a mechanic and a backup vehicle with an oxygen cylinder and an oximeter. Payment is a booking amount, then a confirmation amount, with the balance due before the second day, and our cancellation charges are published on each trip page and on the policies page. Read them before you pay, and ask us anything on WhatsApp.
Questions
How do I check if a Ladakh tour operator is genuine?
Ask for the registered company name, written inclusions and cancellation terms, recent traveller reviews with real photos and a phone number you can speak to.
Should I pick the cheapest Ladakh package?
Compare what is included first. A low price that leaves out fuel, permits or a backup vehicle can end up costing more.
Which company is the best for a Leh Ladakh bike trip?
Pick on what is included, who is on the road with you and how clear the written terms are, not on the lowest price. Use the ten questions above with any operator.
