How do you reach Spiti Valley from Delhi?

On both packages you leave Delhi on an overnight Volvo to Shimla. From Shimla you travel by road with your trip captain along the Sutlej valley into Kinnaur and then on to Kaza, the main town of Spiti.

You do not need to arrange anything in between. The Volvo tickets, the vehicle, the driver and the inner line permits are part of the price.

  • Delhi to Shimla: overnight Volvo, then a road journey up the Sutlej valley.
  • Shimla to Kaza: through Kinnaur, with stops at Sangla, Kalpa, Nako and Tabo on the summer circuit.
  • Return: over Kunzum Pass and through the Atal Tunnel to Manali in summer, then a Volvo to Delhi. In winter the same Shimla road is used both ways.

Shimla route or Manali route: which is better?

Spiti has two roads in. The Shimla and Kinnaur road follows the river and is the one that stays usable in winter. The Manali road goes over Kunzum Pass and past Chandratal, and is closed by snow for much of the year.

Our summer circuit uses both: in via Shimla and Kinnaur, out via Chandratal and Manali, so you do not drive the same road twice. Our winter expedition uses only the Shimla side, because the Manali side is closed.

  • Want Chandratal and Kunzum Pass: choose the summer circuit.
  • Want snow, frozen rivers and quiet villages: choose the winter expedition.

Pickup and drop from Delhi

You meet the team at the Delhi pickup point and board the overnight Volvo to Shimla. On the summer tour you return by Volvo from Manali and reach Delhi the next morning. On the winter expedition the Volvo runs Delhi to Shimla and back.

Your captain shares the exact pickup point, time and bus details before departure.

You can check open batches and send a booking request on each trip's own booking page. A trip captain calls to confirm.

Altitude, roads and safety

Spiti's villages sit between 3,600 and 4,500 m, and Kunzum Pass is 4,551 m. The itinerary gains height slowly, and every batch carries a first-aid kit, oxygen cylinders and an oximeter.

Roads in the valley close without warning after snow or landslides. Your captain checks them each day and adjusts the plan instead of driving into a closure.
