Ladakh and Spiti are neighbours and are often planned together, but they feel different. Ladakh is bigger, higher and more dramatic. Spiti is quieter, more village-led and easier to reach by road from Delhi.
Altitude and difficulty
Our Ladakh motorcycle trip crosses Khardung La at 5,359 m and starts in Leh at about 3,500 m, so it is the more demanding choice. The summer Spiti circuit tops out at Kunzum Pass, 4,551 m, and is graded moderate.
Season
Ladakh runs roughly April to October. Spiti has a summer circuit and a winter option, which is the main reason people pick it for a snow trip.
How you travel
In Ladakh you can ride a Royal Enfield Himalayan as a group, or take the Moon Land tour by SUV. In Spiti you can backpack in a group vehicle from Delhi, or drive the snow roads in a 4WD in winter.
