Lamayuru, known as the Moon Land of Ladakh, is a high-altitude desert of eroded ridges beside an 11th-century monastery. It lies in western Ladakh, about 120 km from Leh, and it is the stop that sets our Moon Land tour apart from the classic Leh, Nubra and Pangong circuit.
What is the Moon Land?
Lamayuru's pale, folded hills look like the surface of another planet, which is how the Moon Land got its name. The 11th-century Lamayuru monastery sits above the landscape.
How far is Lamayuru from Leh?
It is about 120 km from Leh, roughly a 240 km round trip. On our tour you drive there through high-altitude desert and return to Leh the same day.
