Mobile Network, Internet and ATMs in Ladakh and Spiti

Will your phone work in Ladakh and Spiti? Network on our routes, prepaid vs postpaid, internet, ATMs and how much cash to carry.

Updated 7 Nov 2026 4 min read

Expect to be offline for parts of a Ladakh or Spiti trip. That is part of the charm, but it helps to know where your phone will work and how much cash to carry.

Ladakh

Leh has mobile network, banks and ATMs. Network is patchy in the Nubra Valley and limited or absent at Pangong and on the high passes. Prepaid SIM cards from outside the region have generally not worked in Ladakh, while postpaid connections do. Rules and coverage change, so confirm with your operator and switch to postpaid before you travel if needed.

Spiti

On the way in through Kinnaur, network is available in the bigger places such as Rampur and Reckong Peo. After Kalpa it becomes limited, so carry a power bank. Kaza has network and is the main place in Spiti with ATMs and shops. Chandratal and Kunzum Pass have none.

Internet and work

Do not plan to work remotely on these trips. Hotel Wi-Fi, where it exists, is slow and often goes down. Download offline maps, music and anything you need before you leave Leh, Shimla or Manali.

Cash and ATMs

Leh has plenty of ATMs. In Spiti, Kaza is the main place with ATMs, and they can run out of cash or go offline. Many small shops, dhabas and homestays prefer cash. Carry enough for lunches, snacks, tips, entry fees and personal spending, plus a buffer. UPI works where there is network, which is not everywhere.

Staying in touch

Share the itinerary and our office number with your family before you go, and tell them you may be out of reach for a day or two. Our team can pass on messages through the trip captain.
